My daughter tried to start a blog before me.

Five years ago, I was googling beach house decor and I came upon a blog called Beach Bungalow 8. I didn't really know what it was about, but it was filled with beautiful pictures and interesting writing. SOLD.

Five years later my google reader (soon to be R.I.P., but we can discuss that later) is filled to the brim with blogs I subscribe to and check in with daily.  They are like facebook friends, only more interesting. And with pretty pictures. Did I mention that?

Over the years I have entertained friends and acquaintances with snarky stories of my crazy family and other wacky adventures. I also, maybe, have had a thing for writing. And interior decorating and styling. And good food. And all things pretty. There may have been one or two friends along the way who have tried to persuade me to start a blog. But who would read it? Who would care??

And then it happened. My 12 year old decided she needed a blog. She really didn't even have anything to say, but felt that her social networking life was incomplete without one. What the??? The nerve!! I am older and wiser!! I have been a parent for 14 years and a person for even more!! Why does she get to have a blog and not me?? Why does she not fear rejection and failure? Why does she not feel the need to over-analyze before jumping in?

And so it is. In between me trying to jam my daughter's head full of important life lessons (send thank-you notes promptly, sit like a lady, chew with your mouth closed), she taught me one.

As Nike would say, "Just do it."

As my mom used to say, "It's life, you just get on the beast and ride."

And as my daughter said tonight, "I need a blog."

And so she got one.

And so did I.
